Year: 2007

This was my personal vacation.  We stayed at the 2-star hotel Cite-de-la-Rougemont.  It's a very basic and older hotel.  Not sure I'd recommend it to clients.
We had a rail pass and used it to visit Versailles as well as Chambord Castle and a little daytrip to the charming town of Troyes. We did the Paris-Vision evening illuminations tour with the Moulin Rouge.  My most memorable experience was taking the elevator to the 2nd level of the Eiffel Tower and then walking down the stairs to the 1st level.....kinda scary.  We hopped on a boat right at the base of the Eiffel Tower and took a 1-hr cruise on the Seine. Tip: Be sure to be at the tower at the top of the hour when it sparkles for 5 minutes.  Suggestion:  Do Versailles at the beginning of your trip. It is massive and we didn't get to see all of it because our feet were so sore at the end of the week.  In hindsight, I wish we had eaten at some restaurants further away from the tourist spots.  We were on a budget and chose to eat at cheaper places and sometimes just got items at a deli and had a picnic.  I do wish we had splurged on one big expensive meal.
